Return to Sender surveys the idea of ownership through the act of receiving a kiss and not returning it. This ongoing series mixes elements of performance—with myself as an actor and object, and documentary as the camera records the Kissers and their actions upon me. The camera acts as a third accomplice, helping me make images intending to confuse the roles of the subject and photographer. The Kissers are actively participating—they hold the kiss for however long the exposure is and force me to participate with them. As I inhabit my character, I call into question my passivity as my photographic role subverts and redirects the actual aggressor within these pictures.
